PayPal Sign Up Is Now Accessible!
As many blind persons have discovered when they tried to sign up,
PayPal has implemented a security feature in their sign up form where
a string of numbers and letters which are displayed as a graphical
image on the sign up form must be typed into an edit field. This
rendered the sign up process totally inaccessible to anyone who could
not see this string of characters. Many blind people complained
about this inaccessibility to PayPal, and I'm pleased to announce
that they have implemented a rather creative solution. In addition
to the graphical representation of the string of characters, they now
also make an audio file available speaking the character string.
Here's how it works:
The image is a link. Its alternate text is the word "help" which is
what a screen access program would speak.
Click on this link and a new browser window opens containing an
explanation of this security feature. At the end of this explanation
is a link to "listen" to the sequence of characters. Click on this
link and Media Player will launch then play the audio file. You can
press the space bar to repeat the audio until you have the sequence
written down or memorized, then close Media Player and the help
window and type the string into the edit field as required.
If this security feature has kept you from signing up until now,
click the link below and give it another try! Once you get signed
up, the PayPal web site is very accessible and convenient to use.
